WHO ARE WE?
WHAT DO WE STAND FOR?
We at Restore Democracy Ontario (RDO) are a group of residents from communities across Ontario who have come together through our shared dedication to democracy. We found each other thanks to the growing vocal opposition to the Ontario government’s Strong Mayors, Building Homes Act, 2022 (SMBHA), specifically the implementation of the contentious strong mayor powers contained in the Act. That growing opposition is coming from scholars, journalists, politicians past and current (including mayors), municipal staffers, and Ontario residents, and is getting stronger as more people see how the powers can be used, and as they are being expanded by the Government to additional municipalities.
RDO is working to bring Ontarians together to join as a strong voice in opposition, to demand that the strong mayor powers be repealed, and to support a constitutional legal challenge against the SMBHA. We support the position of VOICE, a newly-
launched group of councillors from across Ontario who are
coming together with the same goals, from the perspective of
our elected municipal representatives.​

​We launched this website to gather information from across the Province into one place, as a resource for concerned residents, councillors, municipal staff and others, on what is happening with respect to strong mayor powers in all municipalities.
